Low Budget Fishing And Fly Tying
Just Thread Fly
This fly is tied using only thread. The darker abodomen, thorax and
head was made by coloring it with a black felt tipped marker.
I have also tied up some of these in just olive thread. Another
successful variation is a fly that uses red thread for the wing and tail
with olive thread on the bobbin fasioned into the abdomen, thorax and head.
Last season I enjoyed fishing with flies made with just one feather.
Fishing with just thread, seamed like the next logical step in my simple
fly experiments.
I have been experimenting with various wing designs and colors. I
have tied this fly in a variety of colors. So far this one has been
the most productive for pan fish. I have been tying them on size
18 hooks. I have fished them on my fly rod (with reel), on
a simple cane rod with no reel, and on a spin cast rod with a bobber.
I have also tied up some of these with 1-3 strands of flashabou or similar
materials (No longer a "Just Thread" fly). The flies with flash work
well when the sun is bright.
